Junior Bruins’ Perets Makes Commitment to Quinnipiac

It had to happen eventually for Yaniv Perets. He’s been one of the top goaltenders in the National Collegiate Development Conference for going on two years now.

So Halloween hadn’t even reared its scary head yet when Perets officially committed to Quinnipiac University (NCAA Division 1) for the 2020-21 season just ahead of the Fall Beantown Classic.

“They started to come out and watch me last season and I went to visit during the summer,” said Perets, a 2000-born native of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que. “They came out more to start this season. I’m super excited, for sure.”

Quinnipiac University has a strong history, making the NCAA tournament five times since 2002, and finishing second overall in the nation in 2013 and 2016.

“They are one of the best programs in the nation,” said Perets. “They have a rich history of moving players to the next level. The campus itself is unbelievable as well. As of now, I don’t know what I want to do [major-wise], but they have a bunch of great programs to study in. I’m looking into it more and I’ll decide what I want to study.”

The Bobcats are getting a goalie who has averaged a .936 save percentage in 44 combined regular season and playoff NCDC games through Oct. 28.

“Yaniv has been incredibly consistent for us since joining our program early last season,” said Junior Bruins head coach Mike Anderson. “He has a quiet confidence about him in the net and I think that transcends to the players in front of him. He’s a true student of the position and loves to compete.”

Perets said that keeping a level head helps him stay focused on the work of a goaltender.

“I’d say that I’m a calm goaltender. I work a lot on my technical game and my movement, but also on being calm and mentally tough,” said Perets. “I have several goaltending coaches I’ve worked with both here and back in Canada.”

Perets backstops the No. 1 team in the NCDC, and also the No. 1 Tier 2 team in U.S. junior hockey, according to MYHockeyrankings.com.

“We have a good group of returning players and a good group of first year guys,” said Perets. “We get along great as a team, and everyone is committed to helping the team win. We know every single game will be a challenge. We just go out there, work hard as a unit and come out with a win.”

In 12 of those 13 wins for the Junior Bruins this year, the man in net has been Yaniv Perets. He’ll continue to be the backbone for the NCDC’s best team going forward, calm as ever.
