Junior Bruins goaltender Nick Sanford has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the fall of 2017. In 25 starts this season Nick has compiled a 16-6-0 league record and a 1296:35min, 1.99GAA .935% line. His .935% is tops in the USPHL and he holds the 2nd best GAA and is 3rd in league wins.
The Bruins relationship with Nick began last fall when he played on their half season Tier I 19U team. “He was at Westminster Prep at the time. We knew he had a lot of upside and we were excited to get him into our program. It allowed us to really get to know him as a goaltender and after watching him with us in the fall we knew we wanted him to be a Bruin full time for his junior hockey year. Nick put in a lot of hard work with us this season and the process of him committing to a program and academic institution as special as Notre Dame is one that wasn’t easy. He stuck with it and has delivered for us this year in some really big spots. I couldn’t be happier for him and his family and I know he will exceed expectations at the next level”, Bruins head coach Mike Anderson.
The day after committing to Notre Dame Nick recorded a 37 save shutout on the road against the Jersey Hitmen, a win that leaves the Bruins 2 points ahead of New Jersey for the all important 2 spot in the USPHL standings as the league enters its final week of regular season play.
Congratulations to Nick and his family on their commitment to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
