Mike is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts. Growing up Mike played in the Springfield PICS youth organization before going to Westminster as a freshman in 1992. After spending 3 years with the Martlets, Mike returned home to play in the EJHL for the Junior Whalers (now the Springfield PICS) winning two titles in as many seasons under coaches Gene Reilly and Gary Dineen. Mike then went onto play NCAA DI hockey at UCONN from 1997-2001, captaining the team in his senior season and winning a league championship in 2000. Mike still ranks among the schools all time leaders in games played and points by a defenseman.

After one season professionally with the Kalamazoo Wings (UHL), Mike and his wife moved to Philadelphia, PA where he would spend the next 8 years working in the financial industry managing hedge fund contracts at SEI Investments while coaching hockey part time for the Junior Flyers, Malvern Prep and Tri State Selects in the Empire league. In 2009 Mike made a transition to coaching full time and, with the help of the Junior Bruins, started the Philadelphia Revolution the regions first ever EJHL franchise. In 2010, amidst the birth of their first child, Mike and his family moved back to the New England area and joined the Junior Bruins organization full time.
