MARLBORO, MA - The Junior Bruins are proud to announce that 2001 Junior Bruins AAA team goalie Jack Williams and family are the recipients of the 2014 Thomas C. Federico Memorial Award.
The Federico Memorial Award goes to the player and family who best represent on ice success as well as the character, perspective and attitude that the Federico family had.
Williams has been a long time member of the Junior Bruins, making his B’s debut in 2009 at the Icebreaker tournament helping the B’s take down the host Boston Icemen in the championship game by a 4-3 score. The following year he joined the B’s for tournaments in Las Vegas, Toronto and back in Marlboro for the Icebreaker.
It was in 2011 that Williams became the program’s first Brick team import. In the fall of 2010 the Bruins were awarded one of the Brick charter’s for the 2011 tournament. “It wasn’t really a tough decision,” coach Chris Masters reflected. “Jack was, and still is, a premier goalie at the 2001 age group and we had loved having him with us the past two years.”
Jack, along with Derek Mullahy who was his goalie partner on the Brick team, helped lead the black and gold to a 4-1-1 record in Edmonton. The team, despite that strong record, lost a tie breaker and did not make the playoff round that year.
Since that first tournament, in 2009, Williams has been with the B’s each spring/summer playing with the ’01′s in the top tournaments throughout the world.
Williams, in addition to his obvious talent on ice, is as talented and good a teammate and person off the ice. Loved by his teammates, willing to do anything his coaches ask, competes hard every time he is on the ice and does it all with a smile and appreciation for the opportunity he earned.
Jack’s parents, John and Sharon, have equally earned this prestigious award. The bar that Tom and Mary Federico set is a high one. The same way that the Federico’s represented themselves and the Junior Bruins-with class, loyalty, gratitude and appreciation-is matched by the Williams family. The Federico’s always had a smile on their face and rooted for and was thrilled with the success that Danny’s peers had. The Williams’ are no different.
“I wish there were more families and players like the Williams’ and Jack,” Masters continued. “They are everything that is “right” about youth hockey parents. Great attitude, never looking for any guarantee’s or promises…just thankful to be a part of the team and know their son will earn the ice time he gets and he will be appreciative of the experience. We are proud to have them as part of the Junior Bruins family”
Congrats to Jack and the entire Williams family!
