U16 Team Added to the Fold

B’s Add New Team for ’12/’13 Season

MARLBORO, MA-The Junior Bruins are proud to announce a new, full season team that will begin its inaugural season for the 2012-2013 campaign. The team adds a new entry point into the program for players that are not age eligible, or ready, for the Junior  Bruins (Empire) team and offers a superior development option for players never before offered in this area.

The team will be open to all ’96, ’97 and ’98 born players and they will play a 50-55 game schedule and will practice 2/3 times per week. The Junior Bruins (U16) will play and practice at Bruins’ headquarters at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, MA and will play in the newly formed EJHL-U16 league.

“We feel this team is going to a huge part of our program and our cotinued success at the Empire and EJHL level and will allow us to get involved with 16-18 talented players each year that we are currently not able to include in our program on a full time basis,” Peter Masters commented.

“Our coaching staff and development philosophy, that has worked so well for the last 10+ years at the Empire and EJHL level, will be implemented in working with these players, running high level practices and pushing these players to maximize their development. We see so many players who are going into eighth and ninth grade that have so few, quality full season options that this team will service that void in the hockey landscape in our area. Those players, in most cases, spend a year or two trying to find quality practices and games to play in that they start to get left behind and missing two years of quality development can kill a career, so we are now able to be involved with more of the talented players that can move through our program and be exposed to our development model,” Masters continued. “While we didn’t official announce our plans till today (Feb 13) word has leaked out and we have already gotten contact from dozens of players and have even signed a few to the team for next season. We are excited at the level of players that we already have on board for our first season and at the response to those interested in playing for us.”

The team will play in a newly formed league that comes under the umbrella of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. While the details of the league (number of games, participating organizations) will be firmed up in the coming weeks and months we know there will be a 25-35 game league schedule and playoffs. In addition to league play the schedule will be supplemented with tournaments and showcases and will play approximately 55 games.

Traditional U16 teams next season would have ’96 and ’97 birth years on their team for the 2012-2013 season. Our team will skew a shade younger and will include some ’98′s in addition to the ’96′s and 97′s.

Tryouts will take place in April at NESC. Full tryouts details and registration info can be found at: 2012 TRYOUTS
