Marlboro, MA- The Junior Bruins are proud to announce the commitment of Premier defenseman Corey Moriarty to the University of Vermont for the fall of 2016.
The Worcester, MA native is in his second season with the Bruins Premier team. In 21 games this season he has scored 7 goals and 8 assists with two of his tallies going as game winners. Corey will join former freshman Brian Bowen on the Catamounts next season. Bowen played for the Bruins Premier team during the 2013-14 campaign.
A member of Hockey East, the University of Vermont Catamounts made NCAA Frozen Four appearances in 1996 and 2009 and has always been regarded as one of the best atmospheres to play college hockey in. “We’re very excited for Corey and his family. He’s worked extremely hard and is very deserving of this opportunity”, says head coach Mike Anderson. Peter Masters echoed those thoughts when asked about Corey, “He has a terrific 18 months with us and its culminated now with his commitment to Vermont. Corey has been a big part of our success on the ice and his game has developed to the point where he can step into Hockey East and have a great future for UVM. We’re very happy for him”.
Corey led the Bruins in 2014-15 with a +36 rating while compiling a 8-21-29 line. This year, in addition to serving as an assistant captain, he anchors a Bruins power play unit that has scored 22 goals. Good for a 33.8% success rate, tops in the league.
