MARLBORO, MA – On Monday, June 29th the Junior Bruins Brick team will take the ice at the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta's capital in their opening round robin game. They begin their season on Tuesday, April 14th with their opening practice as they start prepartions for the prestigious BRICK INVITATIONAL. They will play 20+ games and have 15 practices before heading to the Princess Province. The 2005's will be looking to build on the success of their predecessors. The B's overall record at the Brick is 14-7-5-1, they have a 13-5-5-1 record in round robin play.
In 2011 and 2012 the 01′s and 02′s, respectively, only lost one round robin game but did not advance to the playoff round (lost on a tiebreaker each year). Two years ago, the 03′s, had to win each of their final three round robin games to advance to the playoffs and they did just that. In their final game they beat one of the tournament favotires, Toronto Pro Hockey, and advanced to the playoff round where they lost, 4-3, to the Vancouver Jr. Canucks. Last year the 04's built on that success and not only advanced to the playoffs again but beat a tough Detroit Red Wings team in the quarterfinals advancing them to the semi finals
The tournament field at the Brick includes: Toronto Bulldogs, Team Pennsylvania, CT. Jr. Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Team California, Vancouver Jr. Canucks, Team Alberta, Saskatchewan Jr. Pats, Winnipeg Jr. Jets, Toronto Pro Hockey, Minnesota Blades and the Montreal Ice Storm. The B’s will play 6 round robin games before playoffs start on Saturday, July 4.
The team will get going in mid April as they prepare for the Toronto Invitational at the end of the month. The TI draws a strong field of teams that will include several other Brick teams. They follow-up the TI with practices in May and then their second tournament of the season over Memorial Day weekend-the Boston Showdown. The Boston Showdown, hosted by the Junior Bruins, has a great field of teams at the 2005 level that include Brick teams from the Ct. Jr. Rangers and Minnesota Blades' programs as well as the PAL Jr. Islanders, Nova Scotia Prospects, LI Dynamos Elite, East Coast Express (New Brunswick) and Selects Hockey to name a few. The team will then take a few weeks off before gearing up in June with additional practices and their final tournament before heading to Edmonton-the Icebreaker.
Their final test will be a scrimmage at The Mall on June 28th against a yet to be determined Brick team. The Brick gets going with round robin play on Monday, June 29 and concludes with the skills competition, championship game and jersey swap on Sunday, July 5.
The schedule for the Brick has yet to be released but be sure to become a follower of the team on our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE, TWITTER and INSTAGRAM to be updated on the team’s progress throughout the spring.
“I am excited at the team we have put together,” coach Chris Masters commented. “This was the toughest year so far to get down to the 17 players who will be playing on the team and, as always, there were some very tough choices to make and some very talented players we couldnt accomodate. We feel this is the group that will give us our best chance to be successful and I like the make-up of our team and can't wait for us to get on the ice and begin our season together.”
