MARLBORO, MA – The Junior Bruins 2014 entry into the prestigious BRICK tournament will begin their march to Edmonton on Wednesday, April 16th at B’s headquarters in Marlboro, MA with their opening practice. They will play 20+ games and have 12-14 practices before heading to Alberta. The 2004′s will be looking to build on the success of the previous three teams to head to the Brick. In 2011 and 2012 the 01′s and 02′s, respectively, only lost one round robin game but did not advance to the playoff round. Last year, the 03′s, had to win each of their final three round robin games to advance to the playoffs and they did just that. In their final game they beat one of the tournament favotires, Toronto Pro Hockey, and advanced to the playoff round where they lost, 4-3, to the Vancouver Jr. Canucks,
The tournament field at the Brick includes: Toronto Bulldogs, Team Pennsylvania, CT. Yankees, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Team California, Vancouver Jr. Canucks, Team Alberta, Saskatchewan Jr. Pats, Winnipeg Jr. Jets, Toronto Pro Hockey, Minnesota Blades and the Montreal Ice Storm. The B’s will play 6 round robin games before playoffs start on Saturday, July 5.
The team will practice on three times starting on April 16th and then have a scrimmage on Saturday, April 19th at NESC as the team prepares for the Toronto Invitational at the end of the month. The TI draws a strong field of teams that will include several other Brick teams.
They follow-up the TI with practices in May and then their second tournament of the season over Memorial Day weekend-the Boston Showdown. The Boston Showdown, hosted by the Junior Bruins, has a great field of teams at the 2004 level that includes Detroit Honeybaked, CT. Yankees, Minnesota Blades, LI Dynamos, Blue Chips, Boston Selects, CCM All-Stars, Ottawa Selects and DHI-Octane (Toronto). The team will then take a few weeks off before gearing up in June with additional practices and their final tournament before heading to Edmonton-the Icebreaker.
Their final test will be a scrimmage at The Mall on June 29th against a yet to be determined Brick team. The Brick gets going with round robin play on Monday, June 30 and concludes with the championship game and jersey swap (pictured right) on Sunday, July 6.
The schedule for the Brick has yet to be released but be sure to become a follower of the team on our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and on TWITTER to be updated on the team’s progress throughout the spring.
“I am excited at the group we have put together,” coach Chris Masters commented. “As it is every year, it was a long, tough process to get down to the 17 players who will be playing on the team. We felt this is the group that will give us our best chance to be successful and I like the make-up of our team. There is a good mix of skill, skating, character, toughness and size.”
